Gallery Event: Carmignac Gestion Photojournalism Award winner Davide Monteleone in-conversation with curator Emeric Glayse
Thursday 16th October, 7-8pm
Free for members (£3.50 non-members)
Join Davide Monteleone (photojournalist) and Emeric Glayse (curator and Development Manager for the Carmignac Gestion Photojournalism Award) for a discussion of Monteleone’s work and experiences as a photojournalist. Monteleone is the winner of the 4th Carmignac Gestion Photojournalism Award, which was launched in 2009 with the aim of supporting and celebrating photojournalism. This unique award funds an emerging photographer to visit areas of the world at the centre of geostrategic conflicts, where human rights and freedom of speech are often violated.
Monteleone’s photographs are currently on display at the Saatchi Gallery in London. Entitled Spasibo, the exhibition focuses on Monteleone’s images of Chechnya, a country torn by extreme violence, and investigates the threat to Chechen identity concealed beneath the appearance of calm and prosperity perpetuated by the autocratic regime of Ramzan Kadyrov. Monteleone was funded to work in Chechnya from December 2012 and April 2013 through winning the Carmignac Gestion Photojournalism Award. This exhibition will be the first time these works will be seen in the UK, and represents Monteleone’s first solo show in the UK. The exhibition runs 11 October – 3 November.
