Please note that all of our digital SLR courses are almost identical in terms of content and hours. Although all courses introduce participants to Photoshop / Lightroom, we strongly advise everyone to sit a dedicated course upon completing a DSLR course.

This course is designed for those who own a digital SLR camera and want to maximise its potential. Aimed at beginners and photographers who are moving from film to digital.
Each participant will learn how to fully operate their digital SLR as well as understand the fundamentals of photography such as how to make correct exposures and understand the relationship between F-Stop, shutter speed
and ISO/Noise. The course will also cover composition and lenses, colour temperature and white balance, understanding light and using flash ‘etc’. The course will also introduce participants to post-production in the digital darkroom with downloading images to the computer and opening and editing images in Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.
Throughout the 6 weeks participants will also get the opportunity to create their own personal project which will be presented to the class in the final session. The course also includes one session dedicated to portraiture.

Buttons, functions, menus, settings etc.
Operating the camera manually and in semi-automatic
Optimising the camera settings

WEEK 2: Inside the camera, how to care for it and histograms
How the image is constructed and how it differs from film
The sensor, sensor sizes and covering area
Histograms – an introduction
Practical test to prove how wrong the camera can be in AUTO and how to correct for it using exposure compensation and MANUAL

The aim of the workshop is to explore street photography in it’s broadest sense and to give the participants the opportunity to develop
confidence, explore their own visual ideas and find ways to
successfully photograph on the streets. Participants will be
encouraged to consider an individual approach to their photography
during the workshop with the intention of producing a themed set of
pictures. This workshop takes place over two Saturdays with a week in- between to give participants time to practice.
In preparation for the first session a list of web links will be
circulated via e-mail and participants will be asked to think about
ideas for a small project. The workshop is aimed at all levels of
photographers who are keen to explore the genre of street photography. You are welcome to use film or digital capture.
Gary Alexander has been photographing on the streets of London for
over twenty years. His work was recently shown in the group show ‘Onto
the Streets’ at Photofusion in conjunction with Tate Modern.
Course content...
DAY ONE
Morning: Gary Alexander will talk about the history of street photography and lead a discussion about what it now means. This will include a look at different methods and approaches, including ways to photograph people.
Afternoon: Gary will lead the afternoon session in central London so that participants can practice some of the ideas generated by the morning session. Between the two workshop days participants are encouraged to produce more work, which they can bring (as prints or on cd) to the final session.
DAY TWO
Morning: the group will meet for a second session of photography preceded by a brief meeting to discuss any questions raised since the first session.
Afternoon: the group will look at and discuss the pictures produced during the workshop with the aim of producing a joint body of work in the form of a web gallery.

| This course is for beginners or photographers who are moving from film to digital. It aims to demystify your digital camera and the basics of Adobe Photoshop Lightroom by concentrating on practical, real world problems, enabling you to shoot more and worry less. Two picture taking sessions are included.
The first two days will concentrate on the camera, aiming to give you the confidence that you are getting the most from it. Day three is an introduction to Lightroom / Photoshop as used by photographers to produce digital files and prints to a professional level. It will also be a good grounding if you want to move on to a dedicated Lightroom / Photoshop course.
