| This two-day course introduces the main concepts of using digital video cameras and editing with Final Cut Express. The course covers the main camera functions that give you control over your images with an emphasis on how to shoot for editing. In the second part you will learn how to get your footage from the camera into the computer and then edited into a short form video for transfer to DVD or the web. The 2 days are spaced to give participants time to shoot their own material for editing as part of the second session.
Day 1
MORNING: Camera basics and an introduction to editing
We will cover setting exposure, white balance and the other main camera controls as well as considering options for recording sound. Alongside the technical aspects we’ll also look at some different approaches to editing style through examples.
AFTERNOON: Introducing Final Cut Express
We will begin by editing a short sequence using generic footage and cover the main features: sequence settings, the interface and editing tools.
Day 2
Final Cut Express - making a short film
We will look at more features of Final Cut including:
video capture and conversion
filters
basic audio editing
key framing
text / titles
exporting
You will have the opportunity to work with your own footage with the aim for each participant to produce an initial rough cut of a short (3-5 minute) film.
