| Photofusion is a non-profit photography gallery and
training centre that promotes the enjoyment, appreciation
and critical understanding of photographic-based arts
through exhibitions and related activities.
We are committed to exhibiting a broad range of
work with an emphasis
on promoting diversity within the photographic arts, encompassing
both chemical and digital media, alongside current debates around
photography and society. We have established a growing reputation
for showcasing work that looks at innovative ways of using photography,
working with photographers who are influenced by other art forms
such as film, painting and digital imaging and who have an experimental
approach to the medium. Since its inception, Photofusion has also
maintained a profile for presenting work that has a
strong thematic basis, reflecting current cultural and political
issues that have widespread relevance, and introducing the work of
overseas photographers
to UK audiences.
Photofusion presents up to 8 exhibitions each year
to our continually expanding audience, supported
by a programme of educational and interpretive events.
Reflecting our equal opportunities policies, our
programme seeks to encourage access, participation,
dialogue and understanding of key cultural issues
and of contemporary lens-based and digital art. Aimed
at audiences of all ages and backgrounds, we represent
this from a local, national and international perspective.
In addition to participating creatively in regeneration
schemes across London boroughs, we are expanding
our wide range of outreach projects, working
with disadvantaged and marginalised young people in Lambeth. This
area of project work compliments the gallery's programme of emerging
and established photographic artists who attract a broader media
profile. It also embraces our unique position within the vibrant
heart of Brixton.
Photofusion curates its own solo and group exhibitions,
alongside promoting touring shows and working in
collaboration with UK and overseas venues.
A popular element of Photofusion's programme is the regular series
of talks
and seminars, led by leading contemporary photographers and critics,
which provide a mutually beneficial platform for discussion and feedback.
The diversity of our exhibitions and publicity
programme offers far-reaching press interest. The
gallery produces its own quarterly publicity leaflet
which
is widely distributed and also benefits from ongoing development
and use
of the web site. A display area in the gallery promotes brochures,
books
and other media associated with the exhibition programme, and current
art magazines and journals are available for sale. |
