| Marketing & the Business of Photography Now |
|
The current economic climate has had an impact on the photography industry. This talk will look at the change in the photography market since the 1990s; the effects of digitisation and how the industry has changed expectations, resulting in different ways of working and the huge learning curve photographers have had to face.
The bigger picture of the changed economy will give an insight into some issues to consider when marketing your photography, such as different business models (different ways of selling images), the importance of having a website and why and how to create a brand.
Tessa Oksanen BA (Hons) MA is the owner and director of Top Photography, specialising in industrial portraiture and feature stories. She’s been a freelance photographer for the last twelve years and has both business and individual clients. Currently she’s in the final stages of studying for the Master of Business Administration (MBA) at Kingston University School of Business. |

| Submitting your work to galleries: With Carole Evans & Adrian Wood |
|
At some stage in their career, many photographers consider exhibiting their work. With the industry becoming increasingly competitive, it is important that a photographer’s work is presented in the best possible light to maximise their chances of success.
What are the key things to consider when making an exhibition submission? What makes a project ready for exhibition? How do you get your work in front of the “right people”? With the deadline of the third Annual Members Photography Show (AMPS/11) approaching, this event attempted to answer some of these questions. |
