NCM participant Elizabeth Blanchet new exhibition at Artisan Gallery

Artisan’s autumn season opens with an exhibition featuring three photographers, each with a distinct style and unique interpretation of the great outdoors. Tony Wallis takes our breath away with his high altitude images and then we go down to the beach with Elisabeth Blanchet and finally out onto the sea with Quentin Ball. As artisan enters its sixth year it continues with its promise to create a space which offers an opportunity for artists of many disciplines to showcase their work. artisan’s success has been its ability to keep changing and offering something different each month.

Elisabeth Blanchet

Elisabeth is a London-based photographer, film maker and mixed media artist. For this exhibition she is showing her ‘Beaches’ series. Her use of over-exposed images of seaside resorts infuses them with a dreamlike quality, taking an ordinary scene at the seaside into something extraordinary. Elisabeth says “Through my different projects, I explore emotions, attachment, memory and nostalgia. I see my camera as a “laissez-passer” to meet people and cross the borders of their homes and their territories”. Elisabeth founded and curates the amazing Prefab Museum, housed in a post war Prefab in Catford. http://elisabethblanchet.com

Quentin Ball

Earlier this year Quentin sailed to Holland in a 19th century Brixham Trawler called the ‘Leader’. This set of photographs is the result of that journey. His images have strong architectural and sculptural lines which give power and strength to his work. Quentin says this about the trawler “As she moves through the sea she moans, groans and creaks – but happy, for this is where she feels at home. Here I try to capture her ‘life’ “. All of his images are recorded on film and not digitally-enhanced. Much of Quentin’s black and white work is taken on Kodak Infrared film and generally his choice for colour is Fujichrome colour slide/transparency. Quentin is an Associate of the Royal Photographic Society. http://quentinball.com

Tony Wallis

Tony is exhibiting work taken on his latest trip, this time to the High Sierras in California. It was serendipity that he found himself in this location having discovered that his best laid plans to visit Yosemite would not be possible. The High Sierras has proved a worthy subject for Tony’s talent. Here he has captured the sweeping scenery and changing light of the breath-taking landscape for which this region is famous. Tony is a founder member of the Queens Park Group of photographers, and for a number of years ran the Dissenters’ Gallery, Kensal Green. He has exhibited extensively, and prizes include the RHS Plant Photographer of the Year Award in 2009 and a finalist in the International Garden Photographer of the Year, in 2013. http://www.tonywallisphotography.com
