Starting Digital Photography

This photography course is designed for those who own a digital SLR camera and want to maximise its potential. Aimed at beginners and those with minimal experience, this course concentrates on the all important image capturing skills. Each participant will learn how to fully operate their digital SLR as well as understand the fundamentals of photography such as how to make correct exposures, understanding the relationship between F-Stop, shutter speed and ISO/Noise. The course will also cover composition, lenses, colour temperature white balance and understanding light ‘etc’ .

  • Intro to semi-auto settings (aperture and shutter priority)
  • Understanding relationship between ISO, F-stops & shutter speeds
  • Depth of Field
  • Focussing modes
  • Memory cards & formatting
  • RAW vs JPG quality settings
  • Lenses and composition (Golden Rule and Rule of Thirds)
  • Sensor size
  • Colour temperature and white balance
  • Optimising camera settings (meter modes)
  • Understanding histograms in detail
  • Menu funtions
  • Practical session on location
