In June 2004 Photofusion was awarded a two-year grant from the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation to support a new post of Creative Support Leader. In November 2006, this grant was renewed for another two years.
The support from Esmée Fairbairn enables the organisation to establish new training and professional development initiatives as part of our education programme, offering a more specialised and responsive level of support to emerging artists working within photography and digital media.
To date workshops have addressed, on practical and discussion-led levels, issues such as:
- the processes behind curating exhibitions
- marketing and publishing your work
- finding and working with agents
- managing your business as a fine art and commercial photographer
- digital solutions for photographers using large format cameras
- creating opportunities and organising your own exhibitions and residencies.
- one-to-one mentoring
- regular portfolio review events where photographers can receive valuable feedback from key people working in areas such as magazine editorial, advertising, commercial and public galleries, stock libraries, photography book publishing.
Through supporting emerging photographers, we offer
travel bursaries to those who live more than 50 miles
outside London on selected workshops and discounts
on a range of facilities, including printing and scanning,
for graduates who have left college within one year.
In keeping with the professional development programme to nurture photographers in the early stages of their careers, we have given emerging photographers their first London shows. We are also a partner for the Pavillion Commissions programme 2007 - 2008 and will be hosting an exhibition of four shortlisted artists in the first year in November 2007. |
