Uncertain States upcoming First Tuesday Photography Talk

Uncertain States have announced their upcoming ‘First Tuesday Talk’ for Tuesday 3rd Feb with guest photographer Leah Gordon.

Uncertain States are primarily an artist-led project that publishes and distributes a free quarterly broadsheet newspaper showing lens-based-art. They also hold a monthly photography talk and organise and curate an annual exhibition to showcase their contributors’ work. Formed in 2009 by Fiona Yaron-Field, David George and Spencer Rowell, the group has grown over the past five years from a small core to a loose confederacy of over 100 writers, artists and academics.

Leah Gordon is an artist and curator and has produced a body of work on the representational boundaries between modernism, religion, anthropology, post-colonialism and folk history. Her photographic work registers junctures between history, cosmology, modernism and the present. Gordon’s film and photographic work has been exhibited internationally including the National Portrait Gallery, UK; Parc de la Villette, Paris; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney and the Dakar Biennial.

‘First Tuesday Salon Talks’ further our commitment to lens-based art through practice and offer a deeper insight into the artists process. Our talks have featured intimate and enlightening discussions from artist such as Tom Hunter, Kennardphillipps, Laura Pannack, Mick Williamson and Del Loewenthal to name a few. Through the generosity of our speakers we have been able to bring people together and expand this dialogue.
