Reading Photography Online
‘Reading Photography ’ will introduce and examine four classic photographic theory texts.
The tutor will guide participants through keys areas of the texts and will raise issues for debate.
You don’t need any prior knowledge to participate. You simply need to read the texts.
Bazin’s The Ontology of the Photographic Image is quite short and we will read it together on the first session. The subsequent texts will need to be read prior to the relevant session. Benjamin’s The Work of Art In the Age of Mechanical Reproduction can be found online.
Participates will need to purchase On Photography & Camera Lucida (these can be bought very cheaply), details will be sent nearer the start date.
Andre Bazin – The Ontology of the Photographic Image
