Working With What’s There

Sian Bonnell’s practice is typified by a playful spontaneity. The importance of spontaneity in the creative process has been the subject of much study, psychologist Rollo May suggested that “creativity arises out of the tension between spontaneity and limitations.”

In this 2 day workshop, Sian will work with participants to explore aspects of chance and spontaneity to embrace and question he perceived limitations existing within their own practice.

On the first day, Sian will talk about and share her own process of making. Participants will then each be invited to present a current project of their own. This will be followed by group discussion and feedback and an opportunity to identify and explore chance, play and new performative approaches that can be introduced within their work.

On the second day, Sian will work with participants to trial new approaches to making, utilising objects and material existing within the work space and explore performative and playful approaches to bring  a sense of spontaneity into participants’ practices.
