Toning Workshop

You’d be forgiven for thinking black and white photography is literally black and white. What this workshop showcases are 4 chemical processes that change the tones of your black and white prints. Participants are invited to print multiple versions of one black and white image in Dokumol using a silver rich paper to fully immerse themselves in this tweaked black and white print/toning experience. Participants are also welcome to bring in prints to tone.

The examples given are made on Ilford cool tone paper processed in Ilford’s cool tone developer. The cooler tones contrasts dramatically with it’s sepia toned counterpart although the selenium toned variant is much subtler.
By exploring a few of the most common toning practices this workshop aims to stretch the darkroom experience by adding a layer of tonal variance to the print process
