Photography Exhibition | Photofusion SALON/13
PHOTOGRAPHY EXHIBITION DATES
13 DECEMBER 2013 – 24 JANUARY 2014
We are pleased to announce this year’s Members’ exhibition, Photofusion SALON/13, which will showcase the talent and quality of work produced by Photofusion Members.
Out of over 750 images submitted, the gallery committee selected 101 photographs from 90 photographers to feature in the final Photofusion SALON/13 exhibition. These images will be installed in the gallery, salon-style, creating ‘a treasure trove of photographic art at Photofusion’. (Brixton Blog, 2012).
The Photofusion SALON/13 catalogue is now on sale for £15 (inc P&P). To order a copy you can either buy online using the Paypal button below (no Paypal account required) or contact [email protected]
About the exhibition
There are no categories or themes – the aim of Photofusion SALON is simply to showcase individual images that represent a captivating story or concept. As widely noted in the past few years, artists have been embracing experimental photographic techniques such as montage, collage and multiple exposures. This was strongly present in the selection of submissions received across genres including portraiture, landscape, street photography and documentary.
This year, the gallery will also continue Photofusion SELECT, where four photographers from the SALON exhibition are selected and awarded a bursary to develop their work, with mentoring and assistance from Photofusion staff.
Last year’s recipients of the Photofusion SELECT bursary were Carlotta Cardana, Ariadne Radi Cor, Tim Mitchell and Dafna Talmor.
During the exhibition, Cardana was featured in numerous press including the Guardian Weekend and went on to exhibit at the Royal Photographic Society, and become a winner of both the Lens Culture Award and the Discovery of the Year Award at the Lucie Awards ceremony. Mitchell was offered two solo UK exhibitions of this work, including the Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art in Sunderland, exhibiting alongside renowned names including Paul Graham, Martin Parr and Gustav Metzger. Both Mitchell and Talmor won Arts Council Awards to develop this work and all of the exhibiting photographers continue to use Photofusion’s facilities.
We are pleased to confirm our continued collaboration with Hotshoe magazine with the Hotshoe Photofusion Award 2013. Miranda Gavin, Editor-at-Large, will be judging and presenting the award on the opening night. The winner will receive a double spread in the February issue of the magazine, a free annual subscription and an interview on the Hotshoe Blog. Last year’s winner, Liane Lang, went on to exhibit in the Deutsche Historisches Museum, Berlin, alongside a solo exhibition in Art First Gallery, London and an Art OMI residency programme in New York.
Gallery visitors will also be able to vote for their favourite work during the exhibition and the winner of the Public’s Choice Award 2013 will have their work exhibited in our Street Gallery opposite Photofusion’s entrance in Electric Lane.
This year, Photofusion SALON/13 is being kindly sponsored by our neighbours in the Brixton Market, Franco Manca.
