Role of the Photofusion Board

The Photofusion Board works with the Executive Director to ensure that the organization is effectively and properly run. While delegating programming and operational decision making to the Executive Director, the Board, as the governing body, is responsible for decision making at company level and is held to account for all the activities of the organisation. As the group responsible for ensuring that the organisation operates properly and effectively, the Board must ensure Photofusion remains fully compliant with company and charities law and best practice.  The Board is also required to monitor Photofusion’s performance against its agreed objectives and to act as advocates and advisors for its work.

Photofusion Educational Trust (PET) aims to raise income for photography education in London, and is recognised as a charity by the Inland Revenue. Photofusion Ltd is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee. The combined group is presently searching for new Directors who would be interested to serve on Boards of both legal organisations in future.

Person Specification

Successful candidates will have strong experience and track record in at least one of the following areas:

  • Business development, revenue generation and/or fundraising, possibly but not exclusively from an arts, learning or heritage background
  • Financial and resource management; financial record keeping, reporting and auditing
  • Legal management, with possible expertise in property law
  • Curatorial and/or critical engagement with arts practice or policy
  • Community engagement and/or capacity building, either in arts, heritage, culture and/ or lifelong learning or in the broader public, voluntary or charitable sectors

Candidates should be able to demonstrate an enthusiasm for working within the not-for-profit and/or heritage/ learning/ arts sectors, alongside the highest standards of ethical conduct. Previous Board or management experience is essential along with a successful record of achievement, whether in commercial, voluntary/not for profit or public sector environments.
