Day out for Photofusion member CJ Everard;
07.30 EasyJet from Gatwick to Madrid for a packed day of events in Madrid.
First stop, Ivory Press the best book shop in Madrid and the opportunity to present my first photographer’s book to Valerie Maasburg and Maria Anaya. They loved it, they bought it! Thank you Valerie and Maria. I am very proud to have my book presented in Ivory Press.
Next stop, La Fabrica bookshop on Alameda. Elvira Martin, the manager needed a delivery of my book as it had been short listed for Best Photography Book of the Year at PhotoEspana and they are the official bookshop. It looked fantastic on their table, thank you Elvira.
After a wonderful lunch in the LA Fabrica Cafe it was off to the Loewe flagship store on Calle Serrano to meet Esther and Armando. My book will be part of a VIP event in July – fantastic!! Thank you Esther, Armando and my good friend Mauricio.
They have a gallery downstairs in the store with an outstanding display of fifty photographs by Tina Modotti – a must see if you’re in Madrid.
Then a couple of exhibitions. ‘Latin Fire’ at the Centro Centro Cibeles is an important overview of Latin American photography drawn from a private European collection. It presents unique stories, but a visual language that in my opinion has much commonality to that of Europe and the USA – we are all brothers and sisters!
Onto the Sala Alcala for an exhibition from Chema Madoz. I was not aware of his work previously but a big find for me! Probably one of the hottest shows in PhotoEspana. Often referred to as a surrealist, it’s more ‘surrealist light’ but the technical and conceptual skills mixed with a good dose of humour are on display.
Next stop the airport, EasyJet to Gatwick, home at 01.00. One of those great days out!
