Photofusion Event: Tim Andrews “Over the Hill”
OVER THE HILL: A PHOTOGRAPHIC JOURNEY
Thursday 17 October, 18.30 – 20.30
Tim Andrews tells the story of his project Over The Hill, where he has been documented throughout his illness by over 250 photographers. Guest speakers including Jillian Edelstein, Laura Pannack, Emma Critchley, Peter Dazelely, Jocelyn Allen & Clare Hewitt
In September 2005, Tim Andrews, then a successful country solicitor aged 54, was driving back to his home in Milford, Surrey on the M1 when his left thumb began to shake. His life was about to change forever. A month later, he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease and within nine months, he was forced to take early retirement. He had no shortage of things to do; he loved cricket and the cinema as well and he set about writing his memoirs.
However, another drastic change in his life occurred in May 2007 when he answered an advertisement for nude models in ‘’Time Out’’ for a book of ‘real’ nudes as opposed to professional models. Since then, he has been photographed by over 250 photographers, some student and some amateur but mostly professionals.
His project has been featured on the Culture Show on BBC TV and in The Times, The Guardian, The Telegraph, The British Journal of Photography, The Big Issue and Photography Monthly. There have been exhibitions at the Lightbox Gallery in Woking, the Guernsey Photography Festival, Southport, Merseyside, The Guardian Gallery, London, Farley Farm Gallery (the former home of Lee Miller) and currently at Haslemere Museum.
It has been an incredible journey of self-discovery in which Tim has been able to confront his illness by working with photographic artists of the highest calibre in the process. Tim will tell the story of this amazing project at a presentation at Photofusion and he will show examples of some of the photographs and films which he and others have produced over the last five years. He will be joined on stage by several of the photographers, each of whom will talk about their photograph of Tim.
