Visible White ‘You See Me’ has opened for submissions

The entry period for the Visible White Photo and Video Prize has begun! The competition is titled ‘You See Me.’ and asks participants to respond to the theme Personal Identities in the Digital Age. The competition brief explains that our ‘selfies’ are constructed through the Gaze of Others, and how the increase of amateur photography through technology has led to patterns of more conventional representations of identity being self-published.

Everyone is welcome to apply, including groups. You can submit either a single piece or a project, which is up to ten videos/photographs. Prizes are €2000 for Best Project and €1000 for Best Single Work.

You See Me’s international panel of selectors includes:

Clare Grafik, Head of exhibitions at the Photographers Gallery, UK
Hripsime Visser, Curator of Photography at the Stedelijk Museum, The Netherlands
Bas Vroege, Director of Paradox, The Netherlands

On the 30th March the top ten Best Project Prize (5 video, 5 photography) and Best Single Work Prize will be announced online. The work will then be exhibited the FSM Gallery in Florence, Italy, from 16 May to 16 June 2014, where the winners of the prizes will be announced at the opening. The prize winners will be chosen by the exhibition curators Paul di Felice and Marinella Paderni.

The entry fees are as follows…

– Single work 20 €, for further single works 15 € /each.
– Project 45 € (includes up to 10 single works in photo/video), for further projects 35 € / each.

In the 2012 edition of this competition the theme was Lapus (reflecting upon the way in which works of art are created) and the prizewinner was Victoria Ahrens with Arkadia I.

You can enter by becoming a member on the Celeste website, which is linked from the competition website. The competition ends on 28 February 2014, 8pm Italian time. (To participate it is necessary to pay the entry fee by the deadline hour, however works can then be uploaded within the following 7 days.)
