ABOUT US

We are a photography resource centre and registered charity located in Brixton that has championed, supported, and celebrated photography and photographers for over 30 years.

We provide a safe, high-quality, and supportive environment where people can explore photography and image-making for the first time.

For over three decades, we have launched the careers of many leading UK photographers and built a strong reputation as a hub for creativity, training, and innovation; diversifying the photographic arts and supporting emerging talent.

What Do We Do?

As a registered charity, our current programme of activity includes The Creators’ Studio, Adult Learning Courses, Summer School, and School Holiday Provision. We are also committed to regularly platforming emerging artists from underrepresented backgrounds in our exhibition spaces: Gallery 1, Gallery 2, and our Off-Site Gallery.

In addition, photographers from across London access our facilities and services for:

Through our Photofusion Membership, artists are given a more affordable way to access all of these resources, plus a thriving community of 320+ members with member exhibitions, work space and portfolio feedback opportunities.

What Need Do We Address?

The UK’s rising costs of studios, equipment, and barriers to education make it harder than ever for new photographers and image-makers to break through, and many talented photographers fall through the gap between education and a sustainable career.

We fulfil the urgent need for affordable access, training, and platforms, with the goal to build a stronger, more inclusive and sustainable visual arts community. We address:

  • Equity & Representation – we open pathways for underrepresented and disadvantaged people of all ages to experiment with, and carve career pathways in, photography.

  • Affordable Access – we lower the cost of studios, equipment, gallery hire, and training so new photographers can experiment and grow.

  • Early-Career Support – we provide training, mentoring, portfolio reviews, exhibition opportunities and photography projects to bridge the gap after formal education.

  • Community & Connection – we create spaces within our walls where photographers can collaborate, share ideas, and find support.

  • Diverse Stories – we champion new narratives that challenge stereotypes and reflect the world we live in.

  • Youth Engagement – we give young people meaningful creative opportunities to build confidence, skills and careers.

Through our year round work, people gain confidence and creative agency, technical and artistic skills to progress in photography, and interpersonal skills and networks that open professional opportunities.

What Are Our Future Ambitions?

Looking ahead, we aim to:

  • Scale our programmes nationally to benefit more people facing barriers to participation

  • Deepen partnerships with schools, community groups, and arts institutions

  • Invest in innovation – exploring new technologies and photographic practice

  • Advocate for equity in the visual arts sector, influencing wider structural change
