Photofusion Scanning

For digital and analogue photographers alike, scanning is an essential part of the workflow. Whether you are scanning your own negatives, digitising images made via an alternative process, preparing files for printing, or digitising an archive, our scanning facilities can accommodate you.

The scanners are driven by a dual quad core MacPro, with the Adobe Creative Suite CS5, connected to a fully colour managed, calibrated Eizo screen.

35mm and Medium format and 5x4 scanning is available.

  • Tuesday - Saturday, 11am - 5pm.

  • Our dedicated scanning room features an Imacon 949 Virtual Drum Scanner. This allows for black & white and colour scans from negatives with a maximum optical resolution of 8000ppi to capture the subtlest of details and exquisitely smooth tonal gradients with precise integrity.

    Additionally, our scanning facilities have an Epson 10000XL A3 Plus flat-bed scanner, suitable for scanning artwork up to A3. It is also suitable for film, making it an excellent choice for producing digital contact sheets.

    Our top-spec Imacon scanner will get the most out of your film. It can accommodate strips of 6 35mm film, individual 35mm frames, strips of 120 film, and individual frames of 6x4.5, 6x6, 6x7, and 5x4. Please note that the Imacon does not take mounted 35mm slides.

  • Our scanning room is located in the basement of the building, accessible via stairs or lift.

  • What scanning equipment is available?

    We have two main scanners:

    Imacon 949 Virtual Drum Scanner – captures B&W and colour negatives up to 8000 ppi.

    Epson 10000XL A3 Plus flatbed – for artwork up to A3, film, and contact sheets.

    What formats can you scan?

    35 mm negatives (strips or individual frames). Medium format and 5×4 sheet film (e.g. 6×4.5, 6×6, 6×7, 5×4) Note: Imacon cannot scan mounted 35 mm slides.

    Can I book a 1:1 training session?

    Yes, you are able to book a 1:1 sessions (min. 2 hours) with a staff member (ask for Richard).

    Can you scan contact sheets?

    Yes—your flatbed scanner can produce digital contact sheets from film or artwork.

    Does Photofusion have dedicated parking?

    We do not have dedicated parking but there is metered street parking available on Pope’s Road and Canterbury Crescent.
