Max Ferguson - Whiplash Memorial
Professionally printed on 10x12 Arches 88 fine art matte paper, 100% cotton-rag.
Whiplash Memorial is a reminiscing on the spaces between West London’s memories and architecture. The Ladbroke Grove streets where he grew up is the stage, and Max brings together text, photographs and found material in a cryptic love letter to a flyover. The Westway, which has always fascinated him, takes traffic past Max’s childhood flat on one side and Grenfell Tower on the other. The raised section of the A40 is a concrete metronome snaking through both North Ken and Whiplash Memorial.
Max Ferguson is an artist, writer and curator. He is the Founder of Oval Press and Splash & Grab Magazine, and the Photo Editor of Granta Magazine. Alongside Cian Oba-Smith, he co-authored The Portrait Photographer’s Manual (Thames & Hudson). Max is the author of two photobooks: Whistling for Owls and Deadfall. Max is a Senior Lecturer in photography at the London College of Communication and a regular visiting lecturer on various photography programmes across the UK. Previous experience includes five years as the Director of Photography of Port Magazine and several as a photo editor at the Financial Times Weekend Magazine. Max recently completed his MA in Photography at UWE in Bristol.
“I was a member of Photofusion for a long time, and spent many happy years teaching courses at PF with Lambeth Adult Learning. It is one of the most important photographic institutions in London.” -Max Ferguson
