Tami Aftab - The Rice is on the Hob

£100.00

Professionally printed on 10x12 Arches 88 fine art matte paper, 100% cotton-rag.

The Rice is on the Hob is a collaboration between Tami Aftab and her father. Tony Aftab lives with short term memory loss, that occurred as a result of an accident in operation almost 30 years ago for his brain condition hydrocephalus. Despite his memory loss impacting his day-to-day life, he’s never forgotten the dishes of his childhood in Pakistan. Food and cooking are now for Tony a coping mechanism for living with a chronic disability.

Tami Aftab is a British-Pakistani photographer based in London. She graduated with a BA in Photography from London College of Communication (UAL) in 2020.

Her work explores themes of intimacy, identity, family, and play. An ongoing collaboration with her father, Tony Aftab, who lives with short-term memory loss caused by a surgical accident nearly 30 years ago, has become a central part of her practice. In 2023, the pair published their debut photobook-meets-cookbook The Rice is on the Hob with WePresent.

Aftab has worked with clients including Stella McCartney, Apple, Burberry, the National Theatre, Atmos, WeTransfer, and British Vogue. Her work has been exhibited at venues such as The National Portrait Gallery, the ICA, The Photographers’ Gallery, and Peckham24. She was awarded in Creative Review’s Photography Annual in 2020, and was named a New Wave Creative at the 2023 British Fashion Awards.
