In this one-day workshop, Aindreas will guide you through the process of making Plant-Based Chemigrams; an experimental process where an image is made by painting with chemicals on light-sensitive paper (ie photographic paper).
Using organic materials, plant-based alternatives to traditional photographic developers and recycled expired fix, you will learn how to expose, manipulate, and process your own cameraless photographs while gaining insights into the historical, technical, and creative aspects of the process.
Plant-based Chemigrams are an environmentally conscious approach to image-making and combine light, chemistry, and nature to create unique, one-of-a-kind images. On the day, participants are encouraged to bring along exposed or expired black and white photographic paper (any size or finish) however all materials will be provided.
Artists and scientists have been creating images using cameraless techniques since the early 19th century and today, analogue photographic printing processes are experiencing a vibrant resurgence, celebrated not only for their unique visual appeal but also for their sustainability and environmental benefits.
This course is designed for both beginners and intermediate learners who wish to develop their skills in sustainable, cameraless photography.

Historical and Contemporary Uses of Plant-Based Chemigrams: Explore the roots and modern applications of this captivating process.
Safe Preparation of Chemicals and Alternative Materials: Learn how to work safely with the necessary materials.
Coating and Preparing Black-and-White Photographic Papers: Master techniques for preparing various papers for printing.
Exposure, Development, and Print Care: Step-by-step instructions on exposing, developing, fixing, washing, and drying prints.
Print Protection and Archiving: Best practices for preserving your prints for the long term.
Personal Projects and Experimentation: Time and support to focus on your own projects and experiment with creative processes.
Q&A Session: An informal wrap-up to discuss the work created and share insights in a supportive learning environment.
Aindreas Scholz is a Photofusion member and Select/25 exhibitor. His work explores the human impact on the environment, addressing urgent themes such as war, pollution, and climate change, and he uses his art to raise awareness of environmental issues.
He is renowned for leading workshops internationally that foster meaningful dialogues in sustainability and environmental responsibility.
