The Andrew Winning Fund

The Winning Fund is a legacy partnership, established in memory of photojournalist Andrew Winning, set up as a collaboration between Andrew’s family and Photofusion.

About Andrew Winning

Andrew was a pre-eminent photographer and photo editor who covered the defining news and sports stories of his time. During his 22-year tenure at Reuters and his work with Getty Images, he documented everything from global conflicts and natural disasters to the Olympic Games and World Cups. Known as one of the most talented agency photojournalists of his generation, Andrew was defined by his deep empathy for his subjects, famously stating: “I like shooting human stories where there are no barriers between the photographer and the subject matter”.

A Continuing Professional Legacy

Following Andrew’s passing from brain cancer in August 2020, his family have now established a funding partnership with Photofusion to ensure his equipment continues to serve the photographic community.

The Winning Fund provides Andrew’s own cameras and lenses - the tools that defined his career - to emerging photographers through Photofusion’s outreach initiatives (such as The Creators’ Studio), ensuring high-quality kit is available to those who need it most.

The Mission

Through Andrew’s equipment, and through donations, the fund’s mission is to help remove financial and practical barriers that too often limit access to a photographic career.

The fund, through Photofusion, will provide emerging photographers (largely from backgrounds underrepresented in the photography sector) with access to professional photography equipment (Andrew’s, and others donated), and to expert training and career opportunities.

By supporting the fund, you are helping to ensure that Andrew’s passion for storytelling continues to inspire and empower the photographers of tomorrow.

Celebrating Andrew Winning’s Photographic Legacy

This exhibition of Andrew’s work marked the beginning of a collaboration between his family and Photofusion to support the photographers of the future.

The exhibition showed examples from Andrew’s prolific career, and ran between Tuesday 24 February 2026
Friday 6 March 2026.

Thursday 26th February: the launch night of The Winning Fund Exhibition served as a poignant celebration of Andrew Winning's life and career. Bringing together family, friends, and former colleagues, the evening formally cemented the partnership between Andrew's family and Photofusion. It marked a meaningful moment for the charity, as Andrew's own professional equipment was prepared for handover to the next generation of photographers, ensuring his passion for the craft continues to support emerging talent.
