Join us at Photofusion for an intimate, in-conversation event exploring the powerful stories behind our current exhibition, This is Also Motherhood.
Award-winning photographer Carolyn Mendelsohn will be joined by Photofusion’s Director, Jenni Grainger, to discuss the creation of this vital project, which was developed in partnership with the Maternal Mental Health Alliance (MMHA).
The exhibition itself combines striking portraiture, delicate still life, and deeply moving audio testimonies to lay bare the hidden realities of pregnancy, motherhood, and perinatal mental illness - experiences that affect as many as one in four women and birthing people.
During this live discussion, Carolyn and Jenni will delve into: The collaborative process of working alongside ten extraordinary women to share their lived experiences with complete honesty and courage How portrait photography and recorded testimony can challenge stigmas, encourage open conversations, and create supportive spaces around maternal mental health The behind-the-scenes journey of bringing this collaborative commission to life in the gallery
Whether you are passionate about documentary photography, interested in the vital work of the MMHA, or want to support more open dialogues around maternal well-being, we invite you to be part of the conversation.
