Tesserae: Shapes of Belonging - Gallery Hire

Tesserae: Shapes of belonging

Tesserae: Shapes of Belonging brings together nine photographic projects exploring identity, memory, place, and belonging. Developed through a range of documentary and conceptual approaches, the work engages with personal histories, social landscapes, and emotional geographies.

Each artist offers a distinct perspective, using photography, text, performance, and archive to reflect on how we navigate the spaces we inhabit, geographically, culturally, and psychologically.

Presented by graduates of the MA Photojournalism and Documentary Photography (Online)
London College of Communication
Course lead: Aletheia Casey

This exhibition holds space for complexity: where clarity meets ambiguity, and storytelling moves between what is visible and what resists being seen. The projects invite viewers to reflect on connection, resilience, and the meaning of home, locating the photographic image as both document and poetic trace.
