Advanced Black and White Darkroom Printing - Saturday 15 August

£175.00

Date: Saturday 15 August, 11:00 - 16:00
Tutor: Steff Jamieson

Learn more advanced techniques in traditional black and white darkroom printing with one of our expert tutors. This intensive course builds on existing darkroom experience and a working knowledge of exposure and contrast and introduces techniques for controlling tone and detail in the final print.

Taking place in our professionally equipped darkrooms, the course focuses on developing your ability to work with more challenging negatives and make considered technical and creative decisions throughout the printing process.

The course will cover topics such as:

  • Pre-flashing to control highlight density and retain detail in difficult negatives

  • Dodging and burning for precise local tonal adjustment

  • Split-grade printing for advanced contrast control and tonal separation

You will leave the course with between 3-5 black and white darkroom prints.

Please note: this course is not suitable for beginners and previous darkroom printing experience is essential. It focuses solely on printing from already processed black and white negatives and does not cover film processing.

Participants should bring previously processed black and white negatives – we can accommodate 35mm, 120 or 5x4 negatives on the course.  All other materials are provided by Photofusion.
