Plates & Stories

Plates & Stories - The Big Caribbean Lunch Exhibition

Photofusion is pleased to present Plates & Stories, a collaborative documentary photography exhibition developed as part of Photofusion’s Creators’ Studio and under the mentorship of photographers Amit Lennon and Takenya K Holness, running from 8–23 August 2025.

This vibrant project brings together three young emerging artists; Ryanna Allen, Kadeen Brown, and Dejanae Dickenson, who documented The Big Caribbean Lunch in Windrush Square, Brixton, this summer. Capturing the energy and heart of this lively public celebration, this photography and moving image exhibition offers a reflection on Caribbean culture, identity, and community through the eyes of the younger generation.

Shot in one of London’s most culturally significant public spaces, Plates & Stories is both a creative collaboration and a cultural archive in the making. The project foregrounds the importance of shared meals and storytelling, honouring Caribbean heritage while nurturing the next generation of visual artists.

The exhibition is part of the Windrush Untold Stories project, which was launched in Windrush Square during the Big Caribbean Lunch in June 2025 as a photography and audio storytelling project, founded by Ros Griffiths, produced by Empathy Museum, with photography (in the square) by Amit Lennon. It honours the legacy of the Windrush generation and their descendants, celebrating their lasting impact on British society.

This exhibition at Photofusion marks the culmination of this artistic response. It captures the joy and intergenerational spirit of the Big Caribbean Lunch, as seen through the lens of three emerging photographers and image-makers of Caribbean heritage.

Plates & Stories also forms part of Photofusion’s ongoing commitment to supporting early-career practitioners through mentoring, access to production facilities, and opportunities to exhibit. The exhibition marks the first presentation of work by these artists at Photofusion.
