Develop

The specific step in the chemical processing sequence where a developer solution converts the light-exposed silver halide crystals in a film or paper emulsion into visible metallic silver or colour dyes. This is the first step for film or paper processing and the word is sometimes used interchangeably with ‘process’ when referring to film negatives.
